A Story of Transformation: From Advocacy to Craftsmanship
While today, Caio channels his passion into crafting beautiful and functional homes across Greater Boston, his story begins in the vibrant yet challenging landscape of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In 1993, he became the first graduate in Sociology from UFRJ in his home community of Vigário Geral, a favela in Rio’s North Zone. That same year, following a tragic massacre that claimed 21 lives, Caio took action—founding Casa da Paz (House of Peace), a non-governmental organization dedicated to fostering peace and uplifting his community.
His relentless commitment to human rights put him at great risk, leading to multiple death threats. In 1995, he was granted political asylum in the United States, making him the first political exile of Brazil’s post-military dictatorship era.
